I would tend to agree with you.... however i do like that he is atleast TRYING to do something interesting with storytelling in games....

I read the interview in the newest Edge magazine, and it does sound pretty amazing....even though the journalist does take a fairly critical point of view on it.

Anwyays - as with all hype, we just need to wait and see...

Incidentally, Civilization also featured a tutorial with Sid Meier telling you how to play ;)

Don't get me wrong, Heavy Rain's storytelling ambitions sound very intriguing, but if the core gameplay is as half-assed as Fahrenheit's was, that just kinda ruins it for me.

Let's hope Cage at least manages to write a proper ending to this story, as opposed to the big old mess Fahrenheit turned into about half way in.

Have you seen the video from Leipzig?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akNbviQfddI

I was really interested in Heavy Rain until I saw that gameplay video. Heavy reliance on quicktime events is generally a dealbreaker for me, and Heavy Rain looks like it'll be using them just as much as Fahrenheit did.

Plus, I have a really bad relationship with the horror genre.

The only benchmarking info I have is my own personal user experience :-)

My problem with Vista standby is that, when I boot up, none of my USB devices work. I have the same problem on both my desktop and my laptop - so when I boot up from standby, I can´t use the keyboard...meaning I can´t log in :-(

But the place where I really feel like Vista is moving faster after activating two processors, is during the crapware load sequence. Before it took me about 30-45 seconds to load up after log in, now it is nearly instant. Especially loading the Windows sidebar used to take forever, now it is there instantaneously.

It should be noted that I have been optimizing with Powersuite at the same time I activated two processors, so it might be a combination of the two that makes my boot experience faster :-)

Hey Rasmus.

Do you have any benchmarks on how much faster it is or references to some?

I usually use standby for my laptop because it is not only fast, it's pretty much instant! Also, Vista boot takes ages on the laptop, one thing is getting to the login screen, but after that it'll still take ages to load all my crapware! ;)

I have been looking at the HTC Touch Diamond, but decided not to go for it. There is just something about it I don´t like. The HTC Touch Pro does look very good though. Going to see if I can find it somewhere....without it costing me my right arm :-) It would be pretty cool to be able to do some apps for Windows Mobile.

I expect you've heard that there'll be a The Dark Knight: The Game (technically I guess it's The Dark Knight: The Comic Book: The Movie: The Game) set for release to coincide with the DVD release of the film?

Experience teaches us it's going to suck so bad.

Brenda's content designer position is probably the closest to the typical image of a game designer held by people who don't really know about development - apart from straight writing, it's the only position where you don't strictly need any technical skills. Sadly not all studios even employ content designers. I definitely wouldn't mind being employed as an honest-to-god games writer, but the chances of that happening are pretty damn slim, I think.

Well…yes….and no….

Thing is…it will work amazing as a MMO….but probably suck at everything else :-/

The game is now set up more or less as an MMO…each class has a role in the group (Defender/Striker/Leader/Controller) and if they don’t do their job, the entire group dies… just like in most MMO’s (at least when you get to higher level) - LEEROY JENKINS!

But….perhaps we will see a (new) D&D MMO soon? :-)

Well generally the stakes are pretty low in an MMOG, and usually you (expect to) get something in return for your obedience. I just got paid the for my level astronomical sum of 5 gold to sign some guy's guild charter in WoW, and afterwards he left a large amount of huge bags and other useful items in the guild bank for any of us to take. At level 20, I was the highest-level character in the guild next to him (he was 70!) so he could just churn out these 16-slot bags that none of the rest of us could ever afford. I think it's safe to say he earned our respect :P

And as you say, if you don't like the way the guild is heading, you can just bugger off. Usually you join a guild because you want somebody to play with, and then it rarely matters if you get a huge say in what the guild is doing. Am I right? People play MMOG's because they're more community-focused than singleplayer or regular multiplayer games, and taking orders from somebody higher-level than you or somebody with more initiative is just a community activity.

Actually there was significantly less gliding in DX than in Half-Life. I'm guessing part of your problem was movement in DX is somewhat slow compared to contemporary shooters, so you feel a bit less empowered. I'm not sure what you mean about interacting with the environment: You point at something and press right mouse button (by default; I got it remapped to E) to use it or pick it up (depending what it is). The only "new" thing about it I think was the highlight-boxes, but those were nicked from System Shock.

The user interface in DX itself is pretty standard FPS, and it doesn't change during combat, but it's a lot slower and more clunky in DX than in eg. UT or Half-Life. That's because DX is meant to be more tactical and realistic, but I agree it makes the combat a lot less fun. It's more about taking aim and being careful than jumping around like a mad acrobat.

But yeah, as a shooter, DX isn't really great. But then DX isn't really a shooter, it's a stealth/RPG/adventure/FPS (in that order). So I think it's okay if the FPS part isn't comparable to pure FPS games :P

Haha, i wasn´t sure you would actually read the post all the way to the end....it was a test ;-)

But seriously - i didn´t much like the Deus Ex control scheme, feel, and overall UI. But the funny thing is that i can´t exactly put my finger on "what was wrong" with it. But i think it was a combination of strange movement (i hate when you just glide across the screen) and a strange (or perhaps i should say "new") way of interacting with the environment. Also i felt that the UI in combat was sort of second grade FPS compared to other games at the time - which was probably why i never finished it.
